I love looking for the spirit of trees and the Wanaka willow tree has such a happy, life-affirming nature. It emerges from the clear and pristine waters of Lake Wanaka. It seems to say - I'm not an illusion. I'm here, against all odds, surviving and thriving and brining good cheer to those who travel to see me!
This painting is near and dear to my heart because it was commissioned by a dear friend for her husband of 47 years! They traveled to New Zealand and were taken by this spirited little tree growing in the middle of the lake. I hope the painting brings them as much joy as it brought me while I painted it and thought of the two of them, their life together and all they do to help those around then grow in strength and love.
